Front Cover

1)

I have decided to use a different photo as the main image on my front cover. This is due to a few reasons; I don't think the black top I am wearing in the image is very conventional for a pop music magazine. I should be wearing something much more colourful and 'girly'. I also don't think the image places well on the cover, it is not central enough and leaves a lot of open space around the sides.

2)

I am much more happy with this image on my front cover. The outfit change and the sparkly flower necklace worn are more typical of both the target audiences dress style and the pop music style. The light colour top and jewellery are stereotypically worn by girls aged 10-15 (the target audience). The layout of the front cover is now also a lot better. I have edited the page slightly by making some parts bigger thus meaning less white space around the image. However I know that due to the Photoshopping of the image not being that good I will have to add images/text around the main image to make this less noticeable. The pose I am doing is a popular pose done by many celebrities and seen on many teenage magazines.

Adding my own Images

All the images featured on the front cover, contents page and double page spread must be original. This means that all photos must have been taken by me.

To create my posters I used a combination of my own and my friend's photos. I used photos which I thought would be typical poses used for a pop music poster. I also want the posters to portray a fun theme because this is the main aim of my magazine.

Taking the Photos!

Here is a preview of all the photos I took for my music magazine (386 in total). We took so many shots because this would allow us some choice when deciding which photos to include in the magazine.
We took the photos in the Green Room at college because this would give us a blank wall and high key lighting (both typical features of music magazine photos).

Google Mock Up - Contents Page

First Draft:

This is the first draft of my Google Mock Up - Contents Page. There were a few faults with this draft hence why I decided to redo it. When I came to finishing the page I found that I had 2 blank spaces (middle bottom and top right) which I had nothing to put in. To resolve this problem I decided I would move the white rectangle containing the feature stories up, allowing me to increase the size of the yellow rectangle at the bottom. Consequently I would be able to fit more articles/plugs into my page.
When I improve the contents page I will include a feature which informs the reader about how to subscribe to 'Live'. This is a common feature of most magazines and would hopefully prompt more people to subscribe to the magazine.
Also, I will remove the 'p' before the page numbers because this is unnecessary and does not appear in magazines. Due to the aim of my magazine being to look realistic, I will remove the p's in order to add to the sense of verisimilitude.
When doing my 2nd draft I will include more feature stories in my contents page. A typical pop music magazine will feature lots of articles and will have a very busy look to it; I aim to recreate this by having as many features/stories as possible.

Second Draft:

Improvements:
I moved the social media feature from the front cover to the contents page because I thought it would be more appropriate here (top of page)

Google Mock Up - Front Cover

Improvements:
I removed the social media feature at the bottom of the page because I thought this would be more conventional on the contents page.
